School in Brazil nowadays

My dear,

This is of course an extra activity, but I would really appreciate if you could have your say on this issue:

Public education in Brazil is one of the worst in the World. We have just a few good examples of great public schools as the CEFETs and military schools. In general, we've seen people leaving school without a clue on how to write their own names, and the pupils are certainly not the ones to blame. Among the problems, we can point at least two astonishing samples of the disappointing reality our educational system has been facing in the past few decades:

- badly paid and badly prepared teachers - some are real heroes, some real lack of excuses for human beings.
- school buildings in collapse - some have actually collapsed, and in some parts of the country we can actually see them having classes outdoor. It doesn't look like Brazil, but it is.

What I would like to hear (or read) from you is: What can Brazil - government and society - do to make this situation better? Remember that our constitution says that the society is also supposed to play a role on it.

Looking forward to reading your comments.
